approaching nine months and
has been a pleasure to own. We
have been privileged to share
our lives with dogs since 1995
and he has been the easiest to
own. Yes, he is full of energy,
and once off -lead he runs and
jumps everywhere at 10 miles
an hour, but as soon as we’re
home again he is calm and
settled, loving nothing better
than a cuddle on my knee. He
goes training every week and
has just passed his KC Bronze
Good Citizen Award and will
soon start working on his silver.
Originally I was thinking of
a Cockerpoo, but then decided
to go for a Springerpoo. I can
say it’s been one of the best
decision I’ve ever made.
Rosko is now fully integrated
into our pack. It was well
worth choosing very carefully
and letting the dogs get used
to each other in their own
time. Springerpoos are very
similar to Cockerpoos; they
are aff ectionate and loving, but
are high energy dogs who are
not satisfi ed with a 30-minute
walk round the block. Th ey are
also highly intelligent and need
mental stimulation every day.
Rosko always walks with my
three-year-old Northern Inuit
and we are out for an hour and
a half. He also goes training
every week and we will be
starting agility in December.

HONEST APPRAISAL
Congratulations to Carolyn
Menteith on a balanced,
thought-provoking article about
Cockerpoos. As an owner of two
of these delightful dogs, I really
welcomed her honest appraisal
of these cross-breeds — warts
and all!
I adore my two dogs, who
are aff ectionate, gentle, full of
energy, and remarkably well
behaved (largely thanks to
taking them to training classes
from an early age). However,
I have, more recently, come
across other owners who
are having issues with their
Cockerpoos, both health and
temperament-wise, and so
I think Carolyn’s article was
timely and informative.
Keep up the good work.

FAMILY AFFAIR
I buy Your Dog
Magazine every month
so I would love to share
a photo of my Poodles
with other readers. Left
to right is Judo (father),
Judy (mother), Twiggy
(daughter) and lovely
Deano (son).

THREE OF THE BEST
I am housebound and married
to an ex-staff sergeant with
PTSD. He was blown up while
on duty in Ireland and now
looks aft er me.
Millie, our fi ve-year-old
granddaughter (see left ), is
currently broken-hearted, as she
has lost her best friend, Dylan,
our 14-year-old dog. He was
the last of our three rescue dogs
and was found in London four
days before Christmas when he
was very ill. All three dogs went
on to win rosettes and trophies.
Now Millie wants a Borzoi, as
they look like Dylan. We would
love to learn more about them
from other readers.

THINK DOG!
It was so good to read that
Melton Mowbray is taking
the initiative in a bid to be
named the UK’s most
dog-friendly town. I wish
more towns would be so
forward-thinking and see the
benefi ts of catering for our
four-legged friends and making
them feel welcome, particularly
when so many people now
consider their pets as one of
the family.
Full marks to the Kennel Club
as well for supporting
dog-friendly businesses
and services through its
DogFriendly Awards.
Gareth Turner, Cheshire.

October issue.
