Celebrity dog lovers tell us how their dogs
are involved in the Christmas festivities.
Journalist and author
Tony Parsons says:
“Our Cavalier King
Charles Spaniel,
Stan, is the reason our
family always stays home
at Christmas; the celebrations would
not be the same without him. As
a food-motivated dog, we always
have to watch Stan’s weight, but
Christmas Day is the one day of the
year when the diet is relaxed.
“The day will start with a long
walk on Hampstead Heath in
London, working up an appetite for

that big Christmas lunch. Stan eats
whatever we eat and always has
a long nap afterwards.
“There will be presents for
Stan, although what he likes best
in the world is belly-stroking and
food. I think Stan enjoys Christmas
— and even tolerates my wife and
daughter dressing him up as Santa.”
TV presenter and author Kate
Humble says: “I’m not a big fan of
the traditional Christmas, but over
the last few years, since dogs have
been part of our lives, we have
developed our own style.

“In the morning,
we pack up sausage
sandwiches, soup, chocolate
biscuit cake, and Thermos fl asks
of tea into our camper van and,
together with the dogs, we drive
down to the Gower Peninsula in
South Wales. We have a favourite
10-mile walk that starts on the beach
and ends climbing up on to the
moorland overlooking the sea. We
take a frisbee for the dogs, which
they love, and eat our sandwiches
on the dunes. And there’s treats for
the dogs, of course!”
