what your cat
gets up to while
you’re asleep?

Never make assumptions about your cat’s
nocturnal movements — he could be a sneaky
stop-out. Make like a detective and read on...
SUE PARSLOW
is the founding
editor of Your
Cat Magazine.
A lifelong cat
owner, Sue has
two cats: an
adopted Birman
named Lottie and
a Ragdoll named
George.
C
ats usually enjoy exploring their
neighbourhoods. They leave their
homes with a variety of motives,
and, as we all know, felines are curious
creatures with an inbuilt sense of
adventure, and often a sense of
secrecy too.
When your cat disappears and
doesn’t turn up for breakfast, of course
you are going to be worried. If, when
you discover that his whereabouts
include someone else’s sitting room, as
well as a pub on a busy main road, you’ll
understandably be alarmed!
Claire Hirst’s cat, The Duke, is such
a character that he has his own
Facebook group, which includes photos
of Duke pottering along the pavement,
wandering into shops, and having
cuddles with acquaintances.
Tabby and white cat Duke lives with
Claire, her family, and two other cats
in Market Deeping, in Lincolnshire.
His disappearances have become less
concerning and rather more illuminating
of late, now that the six-year-old feline
wears a ‘cat-nav’ collar so Claire can
track his travels on her smartphone.
“He didn’t come home for a few
months, which is why I started the
Facebook page,” she explains.
Duke’s adventures didn’t really begin
until the family relocated to the town
two years ago. Since then, he’s been
revelling in the opportunity to explore
and make new friends.
The Duke is well
known in his town
— he gets spotted
everywhere!
