Your Cat — November 2017

(coco) #1
I’ve been a subscriber
to your magazine
for the last three
years, and thanks to
the special articles
you’ve published
over the years on
hyperthyroidism,
you’ve helped my
beautiful cat Charlie
get diagnosed.
I’d noticed he’d been losing
a bit of weight over the last
few months but put it down
to him reaching middle age
(nine). However, he’d also
started being sick on frequent
occasions, and was really not
himself. I took him straight to
my vet’s, thinking it was just
a tummy complaint.
They gave him various blood
tests and kept him in overnight.
His potassium levels were really
low, so I picked him up the next
day with some medicine, and
was told to wait and see how
he went. The next day, Charlie
was no better and his breathing
had become rapid, so it was
straight back to the vet’s.
However, thinking back
to your various articles on
hyperthyroidism, it suddenly hit

me. I asked the vet to do a T
test to check, and I got a call
to say the test had come back
positive, and he needed to be
on medication straight away.
Thankfully, two weeks on,
Charlie is doing well. He’s on
tablets for his thyroid and also
an enlarged heart. Although
he’ll be on these for the rest
of his life, I’m so grateful
I remembered the signs — he
can now go back to being the
fantastic chap he is.
Being a lover of Your Cat and
always wanting to give Charlie
the best care, I keep the Cat
Care articles in a ring binder to
refer back to in times like this.
I just want to say a massive
thank you for helping me to get
Charlie the care and medicine
he needed in our hour of need.
Helen Langford, via email.

Thank

you
