CAT CHAT

Cover star!
Our October cover star
was Maine Coon X Persian
Tyax. His owners Shaun and
Michelle Harwood, from
Harlow, Essex, got in touch
to tell us more!
“We lost our original
Maine Coon-cross boy at
16 months old and we were
devastated. We have no
children, so our cats are
our babies. He left his sister
Denali, so we wanted to get
another one, as we were
experiencing the loss but
so was she. Our original
breeder put us in touch with
Tyax’s breeder Debbie. Tyax
looked very similar to Teton,
who we lost; we knew we
had to have him. There was
another boy, Tahoe, in the
litter, and we brought him
home too.
“Tyax is now five months
old and he loves to play.
He loves to ‘help’ make the
bed. He can be mischievous
but he also likes his cuddles,
and he ensures that when
he wants attention, he gets
it. He is never far from his
brother, and wherever we
are, both kittens want to be
there. He is also obsessed
with running water — every
time that happens, the
bathroom is soaked, and
normally so are we!”
Shaun and Michelle
Harwood, Harwich, Essex.

Our hero cat
I thought you may be interested
to hear what our rescue cat
Smokey did for me the other
week. My wife, who is also my
carer, was very ill in hospital,
so I arranged to have a lifeline
fitted in our home. I am severely
disabled, and this particular
night, I fell getting out of bed.
I tried to get up but I couldn’t, so
I made myself comfy by dragging
the duvet and pillow down,
thinking I would wait for my other
carer to come in the morning.
Smokey had other ideas. She
snuggled by me for about an
hour, but when I had dozed off,
she decided enough was enough,
and pressed the red button on
my lifeline bracelet. I was woken
abruptly by my name being called

loudly by the phone operator.
They sent an ambulance out to
get me back into bed.
Smokey is our much-loved pet
and is very spoiled; she has all the
toys and scratch posts she could
wish for. Now, my wife and I know
she is worth everything, just by
pressing that button when she
realised I needed help.

Our little

Tiger
Tiger was the best
40th birthday
present ever, as
I didn’t know that
my hubby Peter had
him in mind for me.
When we arrived at
the house, there were
kittens everywhere.
Only one ventured
towards me: Tiger. He
climbed on my head
and that was it — love
at first sight!
Now, my poor boy
has been diagnosed
with a bone tumour
in his jaw. He
developed an
abscess after a fight,
and had to go to the
vet’s. He seemed fine
for a while, but he
stopped eating and
the vet gave us the
terrible news.
Today, Tiger is
still hanging on, as
I refused to give him
over to the vet to end
his life. I will give him
all he needs, any time
of day or night, until
the end.

Bedford.

Here is beautiful
Kitty. She is
doing her
Neighbourhood
Watch stint,
unless, of course,
any biscuits
come her way.

Up to mischief!
Here’s a photo of Bonnie and
Clyde up to a bit of mischief.
They’re about four years
old, and brother and sister.
We got them in early 2015
from the lovely people at
St Columb RSPCA centre in
Cornwall. They now lead the
life of Riley with us out in the
country near Bodmin. We
hope you like the picture as
much as we do!
