sending in things so we could
help dogs and hamsters too.
It wasn’t just cat lovers
coming together; it was the
whole community.
“Working as a team, we
managed to rescue the cats.
It was a great feeling to return
them to their owners, who
were so relieved.”

selfless hard work during
Storm Frank.
The Star Team award
was new for 2017, and was
created to commemorate Cats
Protection’s many volunteers
who go the extra mile for

cat welfare, and to mark the
charity’s 90th anniversary.
The team was presented
with its award by Cats
Protection’s chief executive,
Peter Hepburn, who said
at the awards: “This year,

we celebrate 90 years, and
up and down the country,
our volunteers are the
driving force of Cats
Protection. Last year, nine
million hours of volunteers’
time was given to help cats,
so I’m delighted to have
a special award to celebrate
their achievements.”
Christina says: “We were
over the moon to win the
award. It was so unexpected.
“We had just come down for
the day and were delighted to
have been nominated for the
final three!”
Liz adds: “We’re absolutely
thrilled and never expected
to win. I’m so happy for the
team, as they all worked their
socks off trying to do what
they could for the cats during
such a terrible time for
the community.” —
