and Keel — the

rescued brothers

who became

adventure cats!

Bolt and Keel’s lives

are full of adventure.

W

hile most cats are

accustomed to

lounging around

a warm house,

sleeping away the day, two

rescue cats from Vancouver

Island, just off the coast of

Canada, are breaking the

kitty mould! Tabby brothers

Bolt and Keel fell into a life

full of adventure when they

were rescued as kittens by

camp leaders and friends,

Kayleen VanderRee and

Danielle Gumbley.

Kayleen explains: “We were

running an outdoor summer

camp for children and were in

a park when I heard a miaow.

Keel poked his head from

a bush and all the kids said

that we had to keep them!”

Danielle adds: “I could

not get over how cute and

tiny they were. I was amazed

at how quickly they warmed

to being around people,

and wondered how they

ended up in the park in the

first place.”

The pair decided to take

the abandoned kittens to

a rescue centre that evening

after work, but after finding

it closed, they decided to

adopt the brothers instead.

However, Kayleen and

Danielle had a three-day

canoeing and backpacking

trip planned for the following

day, so their new additions

were taken along for the ride.

“When we found the

kittens, we knew they had

to fit in with our lives, and

thought that they were
