SHOWCASE

Vanguard – Gun Pod

SPIKA – Deception

Face Veil

Vanguard has rapidly gained momentum here in Australia
for their selection of riflescopes, binoculars and spot ting
scopes. In addition to their optics selection Vanguard also
offer a wide range of packs, cases, gun rests, tripods and
shooting sticks. Recently, I was given a Vanguard
mono-pod to test and af ter taking it along on a recent
outing, was impressed with its versatility. While there is a
large range of shooting sticks to choose from, I was sent
the Vanguard Pro M62 (62 inch) gun Pod which is also
available in a 49 or 72 inch version, however, all retract to
minimal size for ease of carry and all are full adjustable to
the desired length.
Why would I bother to carry a mono or bi-pod you may
ask? Well, firstly when in steep or hilly terrain the
mono-pod helps take the weight off your legs and upper
body and basically gives you a lending hand with every
step. In addition, it will help you keep your balance on the
decline, particularly if carrying out a heavy load. This
Vanguard Pro Monopod is fully adjustable for height and
comes with an adjustable rubber “V” yoke that spins 360
degrees. The “V’ yoke is ideal as a gun rest when out in
the open and can be adjusted and locked at different
angles to cradle your firearm’s fore end.
Referred to as the Yoke Adjustment System (YAS),
a simple push of the but ton adjusts and locks the yoke
to 160, 120 and 80-degree angles. Next an ergonomic
foam grip handle and strap offers a firm grip when
walking and strong flip leg locks offer instant height
adjustment. The legs even have a depth scale on
them for measuring water or snow depth in inches,
however, some of us might opt to use them for a rough
measurement over goat or buffalo horns as a quick,
rough calculator.
Add to this its rubber to metal spiked foot for stability
in slippery conditions and a removable snow basket. The
Pro Monopod also comes with a bonus walking stick
handle with compass to complete the package, however,
rather than change handles I simply opened the V-yoke
to 160 degrees and used it as a handle.

Shape, shine, shadow, silhouet te, spacing and movement.
These are the camouflage concealment factors taught to
infantry worldwide to avoid detection by the enemy in the
field. Today’s hunters know how important camouflage is,
buying the best pat tern suits available, but some of ten
neglect two glaring factors and that’s the reflective shine
produced by your face and hands.
Bow hunters in particular who need to get in close for a
shot will tell you camouflage is of upmost importance for a
successful shot at their quarry and here we look at Spika’s
face veil in Deception camouflage pat tern that does the job.
The “Deception” face veil by Spika is ideal for stalking and
get ting in close and its lightweight and adjustable veil is mast
effective in screening facial glare to confuse game. The veil
comes in a compact carry bag, so you can drop it in your
daypack without fear of losing or misplacing it. Other features
include RealTree Xtra camo print,
adjustable Velcro closure at
the back, full facial
screening and all-over
camo print to conceal and
blend. All you’ll need
now is a pair of
Spika Slimline
gloves and you’ll
be unsee-able.
