INDUSTRY LEGEND
Trucking to the moon and back? Well, if a
certain Flintstone Mack had wings it could well
have done so. Driven 3 million miles and more
since it was first purchased back in the 1960’s I
couldn’t help but picture this truck with wings
doing the run between Earth and the Moon
day after day.
The owner of this earthbound truck is Mulgoa
Quarries based at Penrith. The company is
run by the Wearn brothers, Rob and Adrian.
When I first met these two men it was Adrian
who kept talking about the Flintstone. When I
heard of the miles that this truck has travelled

The truck is a R685RS Flintstone Mack. It was
originally purchased brand spanking new in
1968 by Rob and Adrian’s father, John Wearn,
the founder of Mulgoa Quarries. After a bit of
research I learnt that the amount stated on an
official price list dated February 1969 for this
particular truck was an amount of $25,170.00
plus tax. However, we do know that John was
able to negotiate a deal with Mack trucks that
included a steel float of 2 rows of 8.
The original engine (and there have
subsequently been a few) was an ENDT675
Maxi dyne with a 237hp which produced 906
Ft Lb. of torque. With its 5 speed gear box it
