“Being a part of CanToo
has changed my life.”
Dani Lombard, 38, has been raising
money for charity fitness events
with CanToo for almost 10 years.
She tells us why she does it.

“I did my first event with CanToo in 2008. The
least threatening – but still intimidating –
program for me was the 9km Bridge Run. I could
not believe that I was able to train to run 9km
without stopping. I always thought I was
someone who was biologically incapable of
running for some reason!” she says.
“Since then I have done several half
marathons, two full marathons, a trail run and
several ocean swims. It’s so contagious – the
camaraderie, the friendships, being motivated to
stay fit because you have an event goal and also
because you’ve fundraised and people have
supported you, so you feel very keen to stay on
track and do everyone proud! So far I’ve raised
almost $55,000 for cancer research.
“Participating in charity events gives you the
sense that you’re doing something bigger than

yourself. The personal triumph of completing
an endurance event is huge, but knowing you’re
contributing to the greater good is also a
wonderful feeling. I often think, when I’m doing
it tough on a run, that there are people currently
in treatment for cancer who would love to go
for a run but can’t. It is a privilege to be able to
exercise and have a healthy body that works and
does what you want it to.
“Being a part of CanToo has changed my life in
so many ways. I have become a runner and an
ocean swimmer, two things I never thought I’d
be! As long as my body works, I’ll keep turning up
every year and taking on new challenges.”
