“They can be about everything and anything that crosses
your mind. Don’t censor or overthink what you’re writing.
Let it become a stream of consciousness for your eyes only
that helps clarify, inspire, comfort and synchronise the day.”

FRIDAY: LOVE YOUR BODY
Do you criticise your body for what it can’t do rather than
celebrating what it can do? Do you judge it for not being
young enough, thin enough, fit enough, beautiful enough?
When you wake up, thank your body for rejuvenating itself
during the night. Before you go to sleep, thank your body for
being on this life journey with you and for helping you reach
your full potential. Listen to your body, honour what it needs
and be its best friend and supporter.

SATURDAY: DO WHAT YOU LOVE
According to Temple University’s School of Medicine in the US,
engaging in activities that make you feel good activates an area
of the brain called the nucleus accumbens, which controls how
we feel about life. Commit to doing something you love doing.
Whether it’s luxuriating in a bath with a book or riding a horse
along a beach, give yourself the gift of doing it as often as you can.

SUNDAY: BE KIND
When we are kind to someone else we help make the world a better
place, increasing our happiness as well as others. Research shows
that people who volunteer reap health benefits that may even help
them live longer. Today, do something kind for someone else or go
to volunteeringaustralia.org and sign up your services.

MONDAY: BE ALONE
Being completely alone without any distractions
can feel uncomfortable if you’re not used to it, but
spending time on your own is a great tool for self-love. Take a few
moments to be alone - even during hectic times.
“Relax, get comfortable, and just spend time in sheer contemplation,”
suggests Hollman. “You might want to take a walk, sit in a park or
just withdraw to a cosy spot where you can enjoy your own company.
These moments of introspection motivate you to build greater self-love.”

TUESDAY: GIVE YOURSELF THE BEST
Do you buy generic products because they’re cheaper? There’s
nothing wrong with saving money, but sometimes buying the
brand you prefer shouts a big, ‘I love me!’ for just a few dollars
more. Whether it’s clothing or beauty products, buy the item that
gives you the most pleasure and feel the love.

WEDNESDAY: BE YOUR OWN BESTIE
What would you say to a friend who broke something, said the wrong
thing or made a mistake? Would you lift them up or tear them down?
A study in Psychological Science found that newly divorced
couples who spoke compassionately to themselves following
separation were better at bouncing back than those who spoke with
self-criticism. If you react negatively when you make a mistake,
instead treat yourself like you would your best friend.

MONDAY: COUNT YOUR
BLESSINGS
“Writing an evening journal of five daily blessings
has the capacity to change your life beyond belief,” says best-selling
author Dr John Demartini. “As you give thanks, an inner shift in
your reality occurs. Your perception becomes sharper and you’re
more likely to see positive events and situations in your life.”
Studies show that people who kept a gratitude journal over
10 weeks experienced fewer health problems, were more optimistic
and felt more motivated and energised than those who didn’t.

TUESDAY: MINDFUL MOMENTS
As you go about your day, remind yourself to be present in the
moment as often as you can be. “Mindfulness is the awareness
that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present
moment and non-judgementally,” says Jon Kabat-Zinn, ‘godfather’
of modern mindfulness. Mindfulness can be incorporated into daily
life by paying loving attention to activities as you perform them.

WEDNESDAY: KEEP GOOD COMPANY
Spending too much time with people who always see the negative
can drain your energy, but sharing time with those who inspire you
and make you feel good about yourself will help you achieve your
goals and motivate you to make the changes you need to succeed.
List the qualities of the people you spend the most time with – do
they support you? Do they have your best interests at heart? Do
they leave you feeling happy and energised?

THURSDAY: DO ‘MORNING PAGES’
Writing down your thoughts and feelings helps you understand
them more clearly. In her book The Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron
suggests writing three pages of longhand first thing every morning.
“There is no right or wrong way to do Morning Pages,” she explains.
