Troy Corser was reunited withthe team
manager who set him on the path to
international stardom.Clyde Wolfenden,
brother of Australian team captain Rex, was
running the Winfield Honda team when Troy
won the Australian Superbike championship in
1 993. “Troy was one of the best riders we ever
had,” said Clyde. “He never got angry if anything
went wrong. All he wanted to do was race. And

“I don’t do things half-assed,” said Carry
Andrew. One of America’s super-tuners, he
came out to the Island Classic threeyearsago
and was bitterly disappointed that Team USA
wasn’t challenging the front runners. “I knew if I
built the best bike I could and got the best rider I
could things could change,” he said. Enlisting
Colin Edwards opened the door. “I could see
something happening here,” said Edwards, “and

Fans also flocked to the island to see the most
successful GP motorcycle racer of all time,
Giacomo Agostini, who travelled from Italy
with four famous MV Agustas. The 75-year-old
legend paraded his favourite MV, the original
four-cylinder 350cc machine of his 1972 and ’73
titles. “I like people to hear the music of the
engine,”hesaid.
Brook Henry’s Vee Two Engineering teamed up
with Sweden’s 2016 European F750 Champion
Hasse Gustafsonfor the IslandClassic. A
long-time customer of the Western Australian
Ducati specialist, Gustafson gave Vee Two’s
latest-spec Ritorno engine a trial run in the
Unlimited Post Classic class. The Ritorno engine
is a reproduction of the ultra-rare factory NCR
race engine that in its final development took
Mike Hailwood to his epic 1978 Isle of Man TT win. Using more modern
internal design technology means power is now around 120bhp.
