Anderson hangs
on to SX lead
ROCKSTAR ENERGY HUSQVARNA’S
Jason Anderson stays in control of
the AMA Supercross series at the
conclusion of the fourth round at
Glendale held on 27 January.
Scoring a third overall at
Anaheim, his fourth-round
fourth overall was enough to
keep Yamaha’s Justin Barcia
nine points adrift in second with
Honda’s Ken Roczen just three
points further back in third.
I qualifi ed fi rst in practice and
was able to get another heat race
win,” Anderson said. “I started out
great in the Main but got shuffl ed
back to around seventh, but then
worked my way back to fourth.
Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac took the
spoils in both the third and fourth
rounds and currently sits 10th
in the standings. Round three’s
second-place getter Cole Seely
moves up to fi fth overall after
fi nishing outside the top-10 in the
fourth round.
In the Western Regional 250SX
category, it’s still Yamaha’s Aaron
Plessinger who controls the points
standings on 92 after the four
rounds, and Australia’s Hayden
Mellross sits in a credible 12th
place on 43 points.
The series now moves to
Oakland on Saturday 3 February.

JAIMON LIDSEY ANDKeynan Rew
were the standouts as Australia’s
younger brigade of speedway
riders fought it out for Australian
Championship honours over four
days in extremely hot conditions
at the Olympic Park track, Mildura
over 18-21 January.
It was a new wave of talent in
the Under 21 Championship after
a number of recent graduations
out of age events. Jaimon Lidsey
(Vic) went through the Under
21 event unbeaten to become
the fi rst rider ever to have won
the Australian Championship in
Under 16 125cc, Under 16 250cc
and Under 21 racing.
Kye Thomson (Qld) surprised
many to fi nish second in the
fi nal after needing to progress
from the Qualifying Meeting the
previous night and then win the
B Final ahead of Cooper Riordan
(Vic), Dakota Ballantyne (SA)
and Zach Cook (NSW) to get to
the decider.
Zaine Kennedy (Qld) and
Jordan Stewart (Vic) both scored
13 points in the heats, but both
fell in the decider, fi nishing third
and fourth respectively in the
standings.
Keynan Rew (Qld) made it
back-to-back Under 16 125cc
Championship wins but he
needed to reverse his earlier heat
loss to Connor Bailey (Vic) in the
FinalastheyledhomeBFinal
winner Cordell Rogerson (Qld)
and James Pearson (NSW).
In the Under 16 250cc
Championship Keynan Rew went
one better than last year and
became only the second rider
(after Arthur Sissis in 2011) to win
the two Under 16 individual titles
in the same year.
Rew was unbeaten, leading
home B Final winner Jacob Hook
(NSW), Liam May (SA) and Broc
Tregea (Qld) in the decider.
Maurice Brown was another to
make it back-to-back wins, this
time partnering James Pearson
(NSW) to again claim the Under 16
125cc Team Championship
They were best of four evenly
matched pairs edging out Cordell
Rogerson and Flynn Nichol
(Qld), Connor Bailey and Patrick
Hamilton (Vic) and Patrick Bowes
and Hugh Evans (SA).
