THINGS TO DO

Any of the places mentioned
make a great base for camping,
bushwalking, canyoning,
swimming, photography and
other outdoor leisure pursuits in
the area. There are several caves
in the area worth exploring and
on the Mittagong side there are
several wineries offering tours
and tasting options.

Before descending into the

valley, you pass through the

hand-formed Bullio rock tunnel

Detour
To make a good dual
sport loop, after lunch head
southeast from Taralga on the Bannaby
Road. This road has been recently sealed
and is a smooth, fast blast for 20km. Before
you get to Hanworth there’s a road on the right
signposted to Marulan. This unsealed 4WD route
is called Swallow Tail Pass and is a great option on
a dirt-capable bike to get into the back of Marulan.
The road is steep and tight in sections, and runs
over a creek that can flood substantially after
heavy rain, but is relatively easy riding on
any big-bore tourer. If you’re heading back
towards Sydney, turn left onto the
Canyonleigh Road before you get to
Marulan for a great blast on a
good gravel road.

The Wollondilly River flows into Lake Burragorang,
the major water supply for greater Sydney

There’s no reason to go without good coffee with
places like Brewsters Coffee House in the area

Owners Steve and Stefanie (yes, really) have done
a great job renovating the Tangled Vine Cafe
