athlete, there’s a charity fitness
event to suit everyone, and the
benefits are many. Having an
event to work towards can help
you to stick to your activity goals,
build your confidence and forge
new friendships – all while
contributing to your community.
Many major fitness events are
already linked up with charities –
and if they’re not, you can choose
your own! So set yourself a
challenge, whether it’s walking
10,000 steps a day or tackling
your first marathon.
Even volunteering to help out
at an event is good for you. A US
study found that people who
regularly volunteered were less
likely to develop high blood
pressure than those who didn’t.

you’re a beginner, intermediate or

THE COLOR RUN
W H AT The Color Run really puts the
fun in fun run! Walk, skip or dance
your way through coloured powder
and foam clouds – then join the wild,
colour-filled dance party at the end.
WHEN AND WHERE Events are
currently planned for the Gold Coast,
Perth, Sydney and Townsville. Check

MOTHER’S DAY
CLASSIC
W H AT Walk or run a distance from
4km to 10km in aid of cancer
research at this nationwide event.
This is a fun one to do in a team with
your mum, friends or daughters.

WHEN AND WHERE Held in all major
cities as well as regional locations,
the event runs on Mother’s Day
every year.

WALK FOR WATER
W H AT The Walk for Water challenge
involves walking 10,000 steps per
day to raise money for WaterAid,
which helps provide clean water
to some of the world’s poorest
communities.
WHEN AND WHERE The challenge
runs between March 19 and 23,
and the beauty is you can do it
wherever you are.
