HUMANS OF WW

‘We’re like

I

t’s the first week after the
introduction of the New WW Your
Way+ program, and other than
questions about how it all works, it’s a
group thumbs-up from the 30 members
at the Boronia Park meeting.
The meeting is run by dynamic sister
act, Carolyn Eltakchi, 43, and sibling
Joanne Khamis, 50, who keep the
discussion lively and interactive, with
plenty of laughs.
Carolyn joined Weight Watchers 10
years ago as she’d experienced health
issues requiring a medication which
caused weight gain. She lost 21kg in
18 months, and became a Coach to help
others break through the way she had.
“And I always knew that when

I became a Coach I didn’t want it to be
like a classroom. Back when I was
a member, I sometimes felt as though
I was getting a lecture,” she says.
“That’s why I tell a joke and keep it
interactive, and it’s a great group. About
90 per cent will sit and stay to hear the
meeting discussion.
“People definitely feel part of a
community here. They’re meeting
with people who are like-minded and
want to be their best self.
“It’s become more of a group of
friends, rather than feeling as though you
are in a support group. Many will leave
here and go out for a coffee and lunch –
and they met through the meeting. It’s
just how well they’ve connected here.”

Each month we feature
some of the amazing
people on our program

Mags Redhead
Since joining WW in 2012 Mags has transformed her life, losing more than 50kg
in just two years. “It’s given me back my life. It’s been a complete lifestyle change.
I tend not to eat processed foods now, I try and eat fresh and healthy foods and
I exercise lots. I love jazzercise!” says Mags, 56.
“It’s given me more confidence, and I’m just
happier. I feel better from the inside out. It
just totally changed me.”
Mags has been at Goal for more than three years and her weight is steady
between 67kg and 68kg, but she still gets a lot out of meetings for the support,
friendship and information. “Carolyn and Joanne are a comedy duo! They’re so
inspiring,” she says. “It’s a very supportive group, the members are great, and it
keeps me accountable – it’s a bit like a security blanket!”
