The Bearable
Likeness of Being
a Lumberjack &
the Tale of the
Badger Handyman
It’s impossible not to fall in love
with Emma Cocker’s ‘Wild Folk’ –
adorable creatures dressed for the job,
whether it be hammering and nailing,
setting sail or strumming a banjo
(see the muso variety and others
at http://www.emmacocker.co.uk).
They’re 26-30cm tall and can stand
unsupported. You can buy them at
http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/EmmaCocker
or have one custom made.

The excellent organisation Knit for Peace came about in order to bring together
women in traditionally hostile communities (eg. Hutu and Tutsi war widows
in Rwanda and Muslim and Hindu women in Delhi, India). Through knitting
clothes for street children and orphans, these women heal old wounds while
constructively helping those most in need. One of their fundraising ideas
is the sale of these wonderfully nostalgic knitters greeting cards. (They also
distribute donated knits to those in need and run knitting holidays that you
can participate in in locations such as Italy, India and Scotland – tempting, isn’t
it?) You can help out by buying these lovely evocative notecards or by signing
up for a knitting holiday – or both. Here’s where you can find out more: Website:

EMBROIDERY
HEART SAMPLER
We couldn’t let Valentine’s Day slip by without getting to the heart
of the matter. And our token loved-up stitchery this year is the
embroidered sampler by artist, designer, author and general
creator Rachel Beyer, of Adventures in Making. Contacts:
