them in place, attaching the button
loop at the same time. Set the soft
sides of the tapes aside for the bottom
of the fabric basket and pincushion.

Before continuing, check to
see if your print fabric has
a directional design and if it does,
determine which end will have the
tile inside and which end will fold
up to form the accessory pockets:
you’ll want the design to be facing
the right way on the pockets. Refer
to Diagram 3.

16

Repeat Step 13 to pin batting
to the print rectangle. Match
the print and solid pocket rectangles
with batting, right sides together, and
sew around the side and bottom edges,
leaving the top edge open at the
batting end. Trim some of the batting
from the seam allowances at the sides.

17

Turn the pocket right side out
and press. Topstitch along the
bottom edge (which will become the top
edge of the accessory pocket in Step 19).

18

Measure up 9^11 ⁄ 4 in from the
bottom seam and stitch a
horizontal line across through all layers
to contain the tile. See Diagram 2.

19

Measure 3^1 ⁄ 2 in up from the bottom
seam and mark the fold line. Fold
the bottom part up over the solid fabric
so the print fabric is showing and pin the
pocket in place. Stitch the side edges
securely, continuing up to the tile
pocket stitching line from Step 18.

20

Divide the wide pocket into a
number of individual pockets
with vertical stitching lines as desired.
Anette has a wider pocket at the left
under where the thread catcher will sit
and three narrow pockets to its right
for easy access to smaller tools. See
Diagram 4. Machine stitch the pocket
divisions, reversing at the top edge.

21

Insert the tile in the top of
the pocket between the two

batting layers, fold the top edges
inwards and ladder stitch them
closed neatly.

If your fabric has a directional
print, first mark the top long
edge of the rectangle. Fold the 7^3 ⁄ 4
x 16in print fabric rectangle in half,
right sides together and short edges
matching, and pin the edges together
to form a tube. Start stitching the
seam 1^1 ⁄ 2 in in down from the top edge
to provide an opening to insert the
boning later.
