(^11) ⁄ 2 in below it – 2in in all. Press the
seam open and topstitch close to
the raw edges of the trimmed seam
allowance, as shown in Diagram 5, so
the edges stay flat inside the casing.
24
Roll the tube between your
fingers to move the seam to
the centre back and press to flatten
the tube. Sew across the bottom
edge, as shown in Diagram 5.
25
To box the corners, pull the
corners of the bag to make
triangles and sew across 1^1 ⁄ 4 in from
their tips. Trim the seams to^1 ⁄ 4 in.
Lining
26
Repeat Steps 22-23, but this
time, sew all the way along
the centre back seam. Trim the
seam allowance, press it open and
topstitch it for 2in.
27
Repeat Steps 24-25, but leave
an opening of 2^1 ⁄ 2 in in the
bottom seam to turn the bag out later.
Assembly
28
With right sides together and
seams aligned, push the outer
bag inside the lining. Pin the upper
edges together. The open edges of
the outer top seam should be sitting
together as if they’re sewn. Stitch all
the way around the top of the bag.
29
Turn the bag right side out
through the opening in the
bottom seam of the lining. Stitch
the opening closed neatly by hand
or machine.
30
Push the lining inside the outer
bag and press the seam around
the upper edge. Edgestitch around the
top, then stitch a second parallel line
of stitching^3 ⁄ 4 in down from the upper
edge to form the casing for the boning.
31
Thread the length of boning
inside the casing through the
gap in the seam. Overlap the ends
by about 2in and trim any surplus.
32
Cover the button with print
fabric according to the
manufacturer’s instructions. Sew it
to the inside of the thread catcher
bag over the seam and just below
the boning.
FABRIC BASKET
33
Fuse the heavyweight
interfacing shape to the wrong
side of the print fabric basket shape
and the fusible web shape to the
wrong side of the solid fabric lining
shape with an iron. Remove the paper
from the fusible web when the fabric
has cooled.

ANETTE’S CORNER
TIP When sewing corners to be
turned out, don’t just pivot at the
corner but, instead, make one
stitch diagonally across the corner.
Trim the seam as usual. When it’s
turned out, it’s a beautiful point,
rather than a bulky untidy one.
