LEAF APPLIQUÉ

9

Peel the backing paper from the
leaf and stem shapes, keeping the
numbered sets of shapes together.

10

Working on a large ironing
surface such as a table or fl oor
protected with wool blankets, towels
or similar, spread out the pressed
background fabric and arrange the
leaf and stem shapes as shown in

the photograph. Alternatively, pin
the shapes in place and move the
background to the ironing board to
do the fusing. Keep in mind that the
background is 10in longer and 5in
wider than the fi nished size – some
of the leaves extend into this area
and are also trimmed in Step 25.

11

Once you’re happy with
the arrangement, Mandy

recommends that you remove Leaves
6 and 7 (the ones with lots of parts)
until the others are appliquéd in place.
Fuse the remaining large leaves and
stems in place on the background.

12

For the large leaf and stem
appliqué, Mandy used either
coordinating or contrasting green
machine-embroidery threads. She
sewed the stems with blanket stitch
