Director Matt Reeves takes us
through his primate-packed epic,
from Chimpan-A to Chimpan-Z

THE GOD’S-EYE VIEW __ We’re thrust
straight into the titular war with a vicious hillside
battle between ape and man, at one point viewed
from a striking top-down perspective. “I wanted
to do an angle that showed the violence, almost
from an indifferent, God’s-eye point of view,” says
Reeves. “I watch a lot of war movies and The
Thin Red Line really affected me, because of the
smallness of its fi gures against the landscape.”
What we said: “Thanks to
an evocative story and the
most realistic anthropoids
you’ll fi nd outside a zoo,
this third Apes is the
strongest yet.”
Notable extras: A Reeves
commentary, a bunch of
deleted scenes, featurettes
and scene comparisons on
the digital release.
