BIKE FOCUS IN NOOSA
Noosa Council is leading the
development of a plan to improve
facilities for overlooked sports in the
Noosa, Sunshine Coast and Gympie
Council areas, and those sports
include motocross and trailriding. The
plan is to better provide for dirtbike
riders through better use of existing
facilities or by providing new ones.

PEEL VALLEY MOTORCYCLE Club
has just opened a new track in the
Tamworth region. Based at Casey
Stoner’s property in Dungowan,
the club was started as a way of
getting off-road racing back on
the map in Tamworth, but its reach
goes far beyond that.
Peel Valley is looking to join
the Northern Inland Pony Express
Series, giving riders in New England
and the Northern Tablelands more
tracks to ride. “We started the club
as a way of getting more bums on
[dirtbike] seats in the Tamworth
area. It gives the kids something
to do on a weekend,” said Mark

Simpson, a club representative.
Early November saw the club
host its fi rst senior and junior pony
express. With a good turn out and
a track that catered to all riding
levels, it was a great success and is
a sign of things to come.
The club is hoping to run three
grasstrack events in its opening
year, alongside both junior and
senior pony expresses and, with
more funding, plans to build a
natural-terrain motocross track.
The main aim of the club is to
improve skills, getting the back-of-
the-pack riders up the front in local
races “It’s ot bout bein the

fastest rider on the track, we want
to focus on improving the back and
middle-pack riders,” Simpson said.
In October, Queensland-based
Aaron Rankmore from Motocross
Race Developments did a training
camp in Moonbi through the club.
On 9-10 December, Mackenzie
Tricker will be doing another one.
Currently, the club relies on
volunteers and help from the
community to mark tracks and
prepare for race weekends.
If you want to get involved,
contact the club through Facebook
at ‘Peel Valley Motorcycle Club’.

DEVICE TECHNOLOGIES HAS been
approved by the NSW Government
Offi ce of Sport as an offi cial
provider of defi brillators and
fi rst-aid training to NSW sporting
clubs. As a part of the approval,
the government will cough up
$4 million over a period of
four years to assist sports
clubs in NSW to purchase
Device Technologies Defi btech
defi brillators and receive training
in their use.
The fi rst round of grant
applications opened on 1
November and closes on 20
December. The Defi btech is a
leading AED, the fi rst of its kind,
with a full-colour display that
delivers step-by-step video
instructions on how to perform
CPR, rescue breathing and, in
the case of them failing, how
to use the device for external
defi brillation. It’s designed to
direct a bystander with no formal
education in CPR or defi brillation
through the process of reviving
a person who has had a heart

attack. Along with this, the
Defi btech comes with an eight-
year warranty, weighs only 1.4kg,
is easy to maintain and has a
long battery life (though you will
have to replace the batteries at
different intervals).
In a study by the University
of Illinois Medical Centre, the
Defi btech was found to be the
easiest to use out of fi ve defi bs
it tested, with 91% of untrained
people successfully using the
device in a mock cardiac arrest
scenario. The study concluded
the Defi btech would be the most
effective AED in public places
where people trained in CPR or
defi brillation may not be present.
For information on how
to receive a government
grant, training or a Defi btech
defi brillator, contact 1300 853
563 or head to defi btech.com.au.

METCALFE SEES RED
HONDA HAS SIGNED Brett
Metcalfe to spearhead its
Australian MX Nationals 450
campaign. Metcalfe is no
stranger to Honda, having
achieved his best result in the
AMA Motocross Championship
aboard a CRF450R in 2010.
The South Australian
turned in some strong results
this year and fi nished seventh
overall despite switching
from SD3 Husqvarna to a
privateer KTM and then to
Monster Energy Kawasaki.
“I want to win an
Australian championship
in the MX1 class, it’s
something I always promised
myself I would try and do
before I fi nished racing
professionally,” he said.
