comes down. As the rear wheel makes
contact with the ground you can begin to
apply the rear brake. You’ve got less than a
second to make this all happen, so be
ready. Remain standing and bend your
knees to absorb the impact.

6/ ON THE REBOUND
The most dangerous part about this trick
can be the harsh top-out feeling you get
when the suspension rebounds. This can
fi re you off the next ledge. To avoid this,
stay on the brakes and absorb the rebound
with your legs and arms, kind of like you do
when you’re staying low for a jump.
Continue looking ahead and return your
body to the neutral position, read for the
next ledge.

who’s it for
SKILLSET:
Advanced
GENRE:
Trailriding and extreme enduro

PRACTICE:
Start with a small ledge and
progressively move to bigger ones. Also
start with a ledge that isn’t followed by
another ledge, as in this photo.
STRENGTH & HEIGHT:
The bigger you are, the harsher the
bottom-out and rebound will be but,
with longer legs, the chance of being
able to save it is higher.

WIDOW POTENTIAL:
High. Don’t ghostie off a cliff or you’ll
crush your ankles and balls.
BRAGGING RIGHTS:
This doesn’t look that fl ash but it is
certainly faster than crawling and
uses less energy.

ANKLES

AND

WRISTS
This trick is a good way to break your
ankles and wrists. Unlike tricks where
you land with momentum to transfer
force, or land on the down ramp to
take some of the impact, with this
trick you’re landing on fl at ground
which means the suspension should
do all the work, not your ankles. Try
positioning the ’pegs under the balls
of your feet so you fl ex at the ankle
and avoid snapping them. Same goes
for your wrists.

REBOUNDING TO
YOUR ADVANTAGE
If you’ve got several ledges
straight after each other you
can use the suspension rebound
to boost you into the next
launch. As the suspension
unloads, use that energy to pop
up and or into the next ledge.
