REARGUARD

GRIP TIP

TROUBLE 

Cutting the ends out of your handgrips with a razor

blade can be a pain and can leave the ’grips with

jagged and ugly looking ends that can tear easily.

TRIK 

Before fi tting the ’grips, take a die grinder and

neatly cut out the ends. Once the ‘bar ends or

handguards are fi tted the grips look much neater.

TIDY TUB

TROUBLE 

If you’re like me and you’re a neat freak then trying to

drain forks, carbies or just doing any kind of messy

work on a bench in the corner of your shed really gets

you frustrated.

TRIK 

Find yourself an old stainless steel sink and fi t it into

one of your benches. Then plumb the drain hole of the

sink into a 60-litre drum. You will then have a perfect

place to clean messy parts or drain oil from motors or

forks before taking the used fl uid to your local

recycling centre.

WIPERS

TROUBLE 

You’ve been going through fork seals quite frequently

lately and have seen those seal savers made of

wetsuit material in the shop. You’re considering

giving them a go.

TRIK 

If you are lazy on the maintenance, then these might

not be the go for you. After each ride, when you clean

your bike, you need to remove them and wash them

as dirt gets caught on the inside. If you allow the

gunge to build up it will rub up and down the fork legs,

eventually causing damage to the tubes.

DOUBLE TIED

TROUBLE 

Many race meetings use transponder scoring

systems. Generally, you are supplied with two cable

ties that fi t the fl imsy bracket to the bike and then

the transponder fi ts into that bracket with a clip.

Quite often in a crash these brackets can bust off,

leaving your transponder on the track.

TRIK 

Place a third cable tie around the transponder and

transponder bracket. This way if the bracket fails at

least your transponder will remain in place and you

won’t be handed a bill to replace the thing by the

race organizers at the end of the day.
