Australasian Dirt Bike — January 2018

(sharon) #1

ENTER, DICK BURLESON

IN ONLY IT’S third year, the
A4DE attracted its first
international competitor,
American legend Dick Burleson
(top right). The U.S. star took the
Outright and, in 2018, he’s
coming back to help celebrate
the 40th anniversary of the
prestigious event.
Burleson has won eight ISDE
Gold Medals, eight AMA National
Enduro Championships, 60 AMA

enduros and developed the
Moose line of off-road riding
gear. The search is now on to
find the bike Dick rode last time
he was here, a 1980 Husqvarna
WR250. It may still have the
scrutineering markings on the
engine cases, rims and hubs, a
splotch of paint with the riding
number 1 scratched in it.
The NSW registration number
was QS-027.

the case of a tie on times, the older rider will be the best of both.

Vintage bikes
AS PART OF the Cessnock celebrations there will be vinduro classes
with easier times. There will also be a special class for those who rode
the first Four-Day.
The class will be called “John Hall 78ers” and they will feature in a
“demonstration event” at the final Motocross Test on day four. Riders
in the 78er class do not have to ride the full four-day event to be
eligible to ride in the “demonstration”.
A first-place trophy will be awarded to the highest-placed returning
1978 Four-Day rider. Any of the original ’78ers seeking further
information can contact Deeds Raymond, [email protected]
The support for the vinduro class, Over-45 class and EVO68 bikes
has been phenomenal and all places are taken but riders can still enter
and go on a waiting list to replace anyone who may not be able to
attend. If other classes don’t reach capacity, then there is the
possibility that more vintage class entries will be allowed.
