TRAILRIDING APP
I think in the last 12
months there was an app
recommended for iPhone in
an article and an
advertisement as being
particularly relevant to
trailriding. Can you please
give me the name of it?
Simon Thomas

There’s a few options for trailriding
apps. Mud Map 2 is a great one but
there is also ExplorOz Traveller,
EasyTrails GPS and Spot Tracker.

GREAT REPLY
In ADB #459 we ran Paul’s letter
regarding Andrew Clubb’s test of
the SWM Superdual and he won
Mouth of the Month. Paul was so
rapt with Clubby’s response that
he shot us another letter.
I just want to say thanks for
putting my letter in ADB
#459 about the SWM
Superdual test that Clubby
wrote. Please thank him for
his reply, although I do not
agree with it. Another mag
ran an article on the
Superdual which was a lot
more positive for what the
bike is designed for
(dualspor t/ADV riding).
Also thanks for the prize!

WORLD’S FASTEST HUSABERG?
My name is Nicky and I’m the dirt track secretary of
the Townsville Motorcycle Club in Qld. I was
wondering if you would be interested in doing a story
about one of our members, who has been featured in
ADB a few times now, Damien Koppe?
He featured in an article riding 50cc scooters to
Cape York for a bucks’ party last year, and also for
winning the Grass Tree Beach Races “King of the
Beach” for the last two years.
Damien has entered to ride in the Burt Munro
Challenge in New Zealand which will be held in
February in the speedway and beach race events.
He’s had a long racing career, winning many
significant events, Australian titles and Qld titles in
dirt track and long track, and rode professional
speedway in the UK for Sheffield Tigers. One of the
bikes he rides (on which he won King of the Beach) is
a methanol-fuelled 2005 model 670cc Husaberg and
there is no other bike like it. It is the world’s fastest
Husaberg, and is extremely popular as they are no
longer made.
Damien is shipping that bike to New Zealand for
the Burt Munro Challenge and I’m sure he can fill
you in on further details surrounding the Husaberg’s
engine. He is a motorcycle mechanic by trade, and
his dad, Steve Koppe (who also rode for many years
as a professional rider in the UK) built the engine.
Please let me know if you would be interested in
the story, and I can provide you with Damien’s phone
number.
Nicky Faber

I think that’s a great idea, Nicky! We love to give the limelight to our
readers and not just the pros. Can you please put us in contact with
Damien and we will get the ball rolling.

NOSTALGIA
I may have sent this to you
before, but I don’t think so. I
was going through some old
paper work and came across
this handwritten note that
former ADB Editor Tony
Kirby sent me. I dated the
note 1.12.1992, so it’s not
quite 25 years old. I know
how much the late T.K.
means to the magazine, so I
thought it might bring back
happy memories for some
people there. Hope you’re
all having a good day.
Siobhan Zmega

This is really cool, mate. A
handwritten note by Tony Kirby on
the old ADB letterhead [they had
letterhead!!], you’ve done well
hanging onto it!

You fellas have been very
fair in publishing my reply
so thanks very much. I will
continue to buy the
magazine. By the way, an
excellent story on the AJP
PR7 (also in #459) which
uses the same motor.
Paul
Here at ADB our integrity is
pertinent and while we always try to
be fair in our analysis of a bike,
we’re not afraid to call a spade a
spade, no matter what it is or who
the manufacturer is.
