With boughs of holly decking the halls (and malls), fairy lights
twinkling along every street, and British cheer at its festive
best, London is the ideal Christmas destination.
Shrugging of the spirit of Scrooge, the UK capital fully
embraces the season with a mixture of bright decorations,
fun events, traditional music and plenty of shopping.
Fly in with Etihad Airways on any of its six daily flights
out of Australia, then head down to Regent Street, where more
than 300,000 lights line the road in vivid, elaborate canopies.
You can join the fleet of foot on one of the many outdoor
ice rinks around the city; try the rink at the Natural History

Museum, which enjoys the institution’s grand Romanesque
buildings as its backdrop, and runs until 7 January 2018.
Visit Westminster Abbey for a carol concert that will make
the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Take in the
evocative music — and add your own voice to the choir.
Finally, put aside time to shop. Harrods is a favourite for its
window displays, while one-time epicentre of cool, Carnaby
Street, has its own distinctive feel. And, if you can bear the
crowds, Oxford Street has every high street shop you could want.
With so much colour and activity, there is no better time
to pay a visit to London than during the Christmas period.
