ased on the much-loved books by author Michael Bond,

heartwarming comedy-dramaPaddingtonis the tale of the

eponymous bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw), who travels

to London in search of a home. Lost and alone at Paddington

Station, he meets the Brown family (led by Sally Hawkins and

Hugh Bonneville), who warily take him into their home. While

adjusting to the often peculiar ways of English life, Paddington

must also deal with an evil taxidermist, played with vivid relish

by Nicole Kidman. “Paddington is someone we can all relate to,”

says Hawkins. “We’ve all felt like that. Even on a daily basis, you

feel like you’re sort of unknowing and trying to work out how

the world works and really desperately in need of the kindness

of a stranger. He’s not a child, but I thought of him as a lost

child, like an evacuee or a refugee, trying to find themselves in

a strange new world and discovering how that world works.”

Sequel,Paddington 2,will be in cinemas at the end of this month.
