Naturally, it’s too much to expect these

when riding a few hundred metres to
the beachfront – that is assuming they

doubt – or even some of the more
fashionable, more modern protective
clothing, particularly in the heat of an
Oz summer. There is probably a huge
market in this country for diaphanous,
XOWUDOLJKWZHLJKWIDVKLRQDEOHPRWRUF\FOH
gear which is ‘breathable’ and easy
to wear in the heat of our summer,
whether riding around a busy beachside
VXEXUERURQDKLJKVSHHG,QWHUVWDWH
blast. The material should also be able
WRRIIHUDKLJKGHJUHHRIJUDYHOUDVK
protection should it become necessary.
It could be that a material such as this
does not exist, of course, but if it ever
made its appearance...?
My brother Andy, who tells it like it is
without fear or favour, has mentioned

Andy secured his motorcycle licence

in 1954, just under three years after

The mind fairly boggles at the thought

of a bare bum being gingerly deposited

(or any other) seat, but it didn’t appear

as though there was a secret beach
