I love the old heritage Hotel, no not

the old wooden one. Although I have

stayed there too a long time ago.

section alongside Lake Wanaka was

loose gravel, with no guard rail. They

sealed it, possibly encouraged by the

many rental cars that were ending up in

the lake (true).

The road south from Haast takes you

to the dead end of Jackson Bay. Mostly

through forest and not highly rated.
