o, we don’t mean that
you have to bare all! ...
just a few strategic slits
here and there will be enough,
especially if they’re around the
shoulder and neckline area. As
we already mentioned, the best
dresses this Spring beautifully
bare your shoulders, whether
it’s just a whisper of skin
showing under a slit and tied
sleeve as in the McCall’s easy
pullover dress on this page,
or it’s the more dramatic ‘cold
shoulder look’, usually framed by
the season’s favourite flounces
and ruffles as in the pretty New
Look style at left. These varying
degrees of bareness means that
it’s a game that anyone can play!
You’ll notice that the two styles
on this page are relatively
simple and slip-like ... that’s to
keep the focus up top, around
the shoulders, neck and face.
Plus, what’s better than a dress
that’s as easy as a T-shirt, but
that is much prettier?
The new ease in dresses also
extends to their sportier side,
in dashing stripes of differing
widths and directions. As we
mentioned in our ’Wear What
When’ article, those multi-
directional stripes have great
figure-flattering potential,
and on the facing page, we
expand on that idea to show
you how it could be done
with two distinctly different
silhouettes;- It can add interest
to the simplest tunic shape (and
even though the style shown
on the facing page is actually
a print, you can create your
own patchwork of stripes to
suit your figure,) or can define
a waist with diagonal panels
crisscrossing the torso on the
‘fit-and-flare’ style that’s also
on the facing page. Two terrific
dress shapes no matter how you
stripe it ...

GRIN & BARE IT!
