Australian Stitches — September 2017

(Michael S) #1

Modern fashion now gives you lots
of choice... but even with so much
‘fashion’ out there and so many
options, all choices aren’t created
equal. There are certain ideas or
‘signals’ that effect the biggest
changes to your wardrobe when it
comes to a new season.
The strongest signal of change
is in shape;- The direction toward a
silhouette that is generally longer,
looser and easier started a few
seasons ago and reaches critical
mass this Spring ... We see it take
effect with this modern twist on the
classic Spring trench on this page; - in
its clean, easy lines and longer length,
its uncomplicated, simplifi ed shaping
and absence of any extraneous
detail, it gives a fresh new proportion
to anything you throw it over and is
surprisingly fl attering to a range of
fi gures, (We will show a similar style
cut for larger sizes next issue). It
looks great worn belted or loose, and
is best over simple, sleek tops and
ankle length pants, as shown in this
Vogue Patterns ‘Five Easy Pieces’
Wardrobe that has all the essential
pieces of the season!
Ruffl es used to be fussy, frothy,
little-girl fl ourishes that could get
too saccharine .... but this season’s
frills are given a more ‘architectural’
feel, to make a bolder, more
sophisticated statement, especially
when it comes to sleeves, the focal
point of the new season. On the
facing page, one of the ‘signal’ top
styles for Spring, seen wafting
down quite a few top international
designer’s runways. We predicted
that sleeves would get voluminous a
while ago and that was a prediction
that has defi nitely proved out ...
the dramatic tiered ruffl es on those
sleeves are an easy and fl attering
way to get that volume, as they
make your torso slim and sleek in
comparison, and we all know that
there’s nothing better than a new
trend that fl atters!
