HERIETH PAUL

Most models need a few days to recover
from New York Fashion Week, but Paul went
straight from the shows to her home country
of Tanzania to run 5km. “I got off the plane
and went for a morning jog,” says Paul.
“So there wasn’t a lot of downtime!”
Cheering her on was Christy Turlington
Burns, who organised the race through her
foundation, Every Mother Counts, with
proceeds going to the improvement of
maternal care in the region. “Christy and I
met on the set of a Maybelline commercial,
and since then she has encouraged me to use
my platform as a model to bring awareness to
issues that are important to me,” says Paul.
When she was a kid she helped run an
orphanage started by her mother, and now
she works to put some of the young women
who lived there through university. Paul
cites her mum as her role model for both
philanthropy and fashion. “We have similar
body types, so I always know whatever she
wears will look good on me too,” says Paul.
An average look consists of “an H&M T-shirt,
Rag & Bone skinnies, and Vans sneakers” and
is usually paired with something classic from
her mum’s closet, like an Hermès scarf. “She
is always asking for it back,” says Paul,
laughing. –JENNIFER FERRISE
