TRENDS FOR 2014
in wedding day jewellery...
There are some gorgeous wedding day
jewellery trends this season. One of the
most popular seems to be in the style of
Great Gatsby, chandelier earrings and long
diamond necklaces. The other is soft and
feminine floral and pearl jewellery.
in ring and wedding band designs...
We are seeing a very strong [shift] towards
pink and white gold combinations,
especially for men’s wedding rings. We
have also seen many people mixing their
metals - yellow gold and platinum, or white
gold and palladium - taking an existing
design and adjusting it ever so slightly to
their own tastes.
in metals and stones...
Some striking and popular combinations at
the moment are different white metals mixed
and set with black or white diamonds. We
are finding that platinum and palladium are
both increasingly popular [too]. For both
brides and grooms these two metals are
beautiful to wear, long lasting, pure and rare.
Sentiments that sum up the love between a
newly married couple, so perhaps perfect.
Peter W Beck has
been in the jewellery
business for 38
years. Founded in
1976 by current
Managing Director
Peter Beck, the
business enjoyed
humble beginnings in Peter’s basement
where he produced a small range of
wedding rings at night. As the rings gained
popularity, the company quickly grew. Today
Peter W Beck supplies the largest range of
Australian made wedding rings in the
country, specialising in precious metals.
Marketing Manager Laura Sawade tells
Bride To Be what sets the company apart.
What does the company specalise in?
Our specialty is precious metals. Peter W
Beck is also a precious metal refiner, so we
control the quality of all of our alloys, giving
consumers the best possible metals all
complying with Australian Standards. We
manufacture in platinum, palladium and also
multiple carats of yellow, white and pink gold.
Describe a favourite custom made
piece P W Beck have created recently:
One of my favourite men’s designs created
recently was made with two bands of gold,
riveted together with gold pins. One of the
bands is laser engraved with a chequer
plate design and is a really masculine
design. My favourite ladies’ design was a
gorgeous claw set wedding ring, set with
nine .05ct brilliant diamonds. It’s beautiful in
pink gold, but equally stunning in white or
yellow gold.
What do you love when it comes to
engagement rings and jewellery?
I personally love pink and white gold
diamond-set wedding rings that have a little
extra design personality — be it a milgrain
edge or a little embellishment with some
hand engraving. For the guy, I think a
striking wide two tone gold design
looks fantastic - bold, masculine and
something that matches his skin tone.

laura’s top tips:
1
When looking at wedding
rings, it’s easy to match yours
to your partners and still have
your own unique design. Simply
matching the metals of both rings
will give you a matching look.
2
When choosing your
engagement and wedding
rings, think about your own
personal style. Choose something
that you know you’ll love in years to
come, rather than what’s fashionable
right now. Your engagement and
wedding rings will be worn by you
and your partner for a long time,
so it’s important that you are
completely in love with them.
3
It’s important to often think
about your day to day
occupation or lifestyle when
choosing a ring. If you work in a
hands-on role, you may need to
choose a ring design that’s
comfortable and easy to wear.
When it comes to quality, what
advice would you give couples to
make sure they are getting the
very best?
Head to a jeweller that you trust and who
can assist you with the purchase and
make of your engagement and wedding
rings each step of the way. Your trusted
and qualified jeweller will be able to advise
you about the differences between metals,
stones and ensure you are happy with the
quality of the product you receive.
