BEST KEPT SECRET In late 2011, Yael and Mark started
planning their winter 2012 wedding. They wanted it to be an
opportunity for their families and closest friends to get to know
each other in a relaxed and beautiful environment. Although
Spicers Peak Lodge reminds Yael of her parents’ farm, she says it
had the major benefit of her mother and father not having to do a thing to
prepare it for the wedding. The couple kept the actual venue a secret until
the moment when guests arrived (so that no-one would feel compelled to
help). ‘It made shepherding our guests to the venue challenging at times,’
says Yael, but it was worth it to see the looks of delight on people’s faces as
they saw the surroundings.

Meeting someone you like at work, says Yael, takes a bit of consideration, because, ‘There are a lot
of consequences for getting it wrong!’ But Yael and Mark finally began their romance after a couple of years
as colleagues; another year later Mark proposed at a secluded place on Yael’s parents’ farm.
