Referring to the
face pattern, mark
the position of the eyes
and smile with the
fabric-marking pen.
Use six strands of pink
embroidery thread to
backstitch the smile.

11

Insert the face into
the inverted V of
her hair and position it
carefully using the ears
as a guide. Slip the neck
under the face, then
appliqué the face in
place from ear to ear
along the bottom edge,
catching the neck as
you go.

12

Pull the top of the
face out from
under the hair. Lightly
stuff under the top of the
hair and the face with
fibre fill, then push the
face back under the hair.

13

Using a stuffing
tool, push some
stuffing into the side
sections of the hair on
both sides. There’s no
need to stitch along the
bottom of the hair as
the dress goes over it.

14

Using the sharp
points of your
scissors, snip tiny holes
at both eye positions,
going right through the
felt and backing fabric.
Insert two black safety
eyes from the front and
secure them from the
back according to the
manufacturer’s
instructions. The photo
shows the back.

15

Appliqué along
the inverted V of
the hairline to complete
the face.

16

Appliqué the left
and right edges
of the neck without
inserting any filling.
Position the blue dress
shape over the bottom

edge of the neck and
appliqué around the
sides and top. When you
get to the bottom edge,
slip the lace edging
under the lower edge
of the felt and appliqué
through the lace into the
background to secure
it. Before you finish
stitching all the way
across, push stuffing
inside the dress area,
small amounts at a time,
and spread it evenly
so it’s gently rounded.
Finish appliquéing
across the bottom of
the dress and lace.

17

Position the white
apron over the
dress and appliqué just
the shoulder edges in
place. Put the apron
band over the waistline
of the apron and catch it
in place at the two ends

  • the rest of the apron
    remains unattached.

18

Appliqué the two
legs below the
dress, tucking them
under the lace. Stuff
them lightly before
you finish sewing
around them.

19

Next, appliqué
the shoes in place,
lightly stuffing them as
well. Sew a single long
straight stitch across
the top of each shoe to
form the straps, using
six strands of black
embroidery cotton.

20

Appliqué the
arms, stuffing
them both lightly before
you finish the stitching.
Where the arms meet
the dress, appliqué two
small strips of black felt.
(No pattern has been
provided for them:
they’re just straight
strips 3 x 12mm
(^11 ⁄ 8 x^1 ⁄ 2 in.)
