Repeat Steps 2-6 and Step 8.

Prepare the dress first. Appliqué
the black and red shapes to the
yellow dress shape on the inner edges
only. The outer edges will be done
when it’s sewn to the background.
Add a small red heart button (or red felt
heart shape) to the black skirt area.

From the red tulle, cut:


  • Two rectangles, 4 x 15cm
    (1^11 ⁄ 2 x 6in). Gather each piece into


a tight concertina in your hand and
sew them to the background fabric
inside the dress shape at the top of
the shoulders. Appliqué the neck in
place over the tulle, trapping some
of it underneath at both sides to
keep the tulle in place.

Position the dress over the
marked area on the hoop, then
starting somewhere along the bottom
of the skirt, appliqué all the way
around the dress in matching threads,
stopping about 3cm (1^1 ⁄ 4 in) from where

you started. Be sure to catch both
layers where the yellow felt is overlaid
with red or black. Insert fi bre fi ll under
the dress until it’s evenly stuffed,
having more fi lling in the skirt area
than the bodice. Finish stitching the
dress in place along the bottom edge.

defi nition to the shape of the bodice
