with two strands of black thread.

Position the hatband on the hat with

the white tag under the top edge and

appliqué around the hatband,

catching the tag at the bottom edge

only as you go. Appliqué the two

yellow collar shapes along the two

inner edges only.

Trace the cup side shape on

to the paper side of the fusible

web. It has been printed in reverse for

your convenience. Cut it out about^11 ⁄ 4 in

outside the traced lines. Fuse it to the

wrong side of scrap of red print fabric,

cut it out on the line, peel off the

backing paper and fuse it over the

blue felt cup shape according to the

manufacturer’s instructions. Appliqué

the cup to the top of the outstretched

hand, then backstitch the handle with

six strands of blue embroidery thread.

For the bowtie, iron a small

piece of fusible web to the

wrong side of the scrap of blue print

fabric – this adds body and prevents

the raw edges from fraying. Draw a

rectangle 20 x 45mm (^3 ⁄ 4 x1^3 ⁄ 4 in) on the

paper backing, cut it out on the line

and peel off the backing paper. Pinch

the rectangle in the middle to form the

bow shape, stitch through the centre

to keep it in place, then sew it at the

top of the shirt in the centre only.

Sew two black beads to the

shirt as buttons, then repeat
