Preparation and cutting

There are more than 300 Suffolk

puffs used in this cot quilt and

cushion set! They are made in a range

of sizes. Use a compass to draw circles

with the following radii on template

plastic:^11 ⁄ 2 in,^5 ⁄ 8 in,^3 ⁄ 4 in,^7 ⁄ 8 in, 1in, 1^1 ⁄ 8 in,

13 ⁄ 8 in, 2in and 2^3 ⁄ 8 in. Label each circle

and cut it out on the line.

Trace all the appliqué shapes for the

leaves, butterflies and bees from the

Pattern Sheet on to template plastic

using a permanent-marking pen. Cut

them out on the traced lines.

From the dark cream textured

fabric and the batting, cut:

• One rectangle, 47 x 37in (quilt)


• Two rectangles, 24 x 17^1 ⁄ 2 in (cushions).

From the backing fabric, cut:

• One rectangle, 47 x 37in (quilt).

Use a water- or air-erasable fabric

marking pen to lightly mark the dark

cream quilt background fabric. Begin

by measuring in 4in from each edge

of the fabric and making some light

marks: the appliqué is all stitched

inside this ‘border’.

Refer to Diagram 1 to draw vertical

lines for the main fl ower stalks with

the fabric-marking pen. Begin by

drawing in the centre stalk (stalk 4).

Then draw in three stalks on each side

of it, each 4in away from the others. Diagram 1

Note: Read all instructions before

commencing the project. It is

recommended that fabrics be

100% cotton, pre-washed and

well ironed. Seam allowances of

(^1) ⁄ 4 in are used for assembling the
quilt and cushions. Requirements
are based on fabric 112cm (44in)
wide and batting at least 160cm
wide. Instructions are provided
for hand appliqué using a
traditional method of basting over
cardboard. The fabric colours that
Tita has chosen are used in the
instructions to make it easy for
you to identify specific shapes.nti
