H&G ADVICE

DRAINAGE
MATTERS
When planning indoor-
outdoor flooring, it’s
important to factor in
drainage, says Troy
Creighton, managing
director at linear drain
company Stormtech.
“Creating a water barrier
between indoor and
outdoor surfaces is what
stops damp and water
entering the home and
destroying indoor
flooring,” he says.
Timber decking does
not require a drainage
system as long as there
is adequate spacing
between boards, but
solid materials such as
stone, concrete and tiles
do. If you want to
maintain a seamless flow
between inside and out,
consider a recessed
design with a narrow
profile, such as
Stormtech’s tile drain
inserts. The company’s
drains range from $150
for a basic kit to about
$700/m for made-to-
measure designs in
stainless steel.

will prevent a large tiled space
from looking clinical.
