ADIDAS EVIL EYE EVO

Adidas Eyewear have long been the racer’s choice
of eyewear in Australia – thanks to their wide
range of frames and lenses. For 2015 they have
launched a new model in the long-lasting Evil
Eye style. The Evil Eye Evo brings back the full
frame for more of an aggressive look – but the
shaping of the frame and extreme lens curvature
allows for a huge amount of visual freedom. With
adjustable nose pieces and temples, plus coming
in two sizes, every rider should be able to fi nd a
precise and secure fi t. The Evo aids ventilation
through the top of the frame, and the hydrophobic
treatment on the lenses should help your vision
remain clear in all conditions.

The new Evil Eye Evo will be available as you read
this in the Pro version (which includes the sweat
bar and a hydrophobic lens coating) as well as the
regular version.

DEVINCI WILSON 27.5

Rowney Sports are eagerly anticipating the new
Devinci Wilson 27.5, which should be arriving
in March. The alloy downhill weapon has been
designed with World Cup Champion Stevie Smith,
to focus on frame stiffness and a low centre of
gravity. With Split-Pivot suspension, a new shock
position, asymmetrical build and inbuilt frame
protection the Wilson has been refi ned to make
one of the best bikes better. The 27.5 inch (650b)
wheeled bike comes in four frame sizes, and will
be available as frame only and in a bike build with
the spec yet to be announced.

BLISS ARG VERTICAL LD DAY TOP

Bliss are a new player in the Australian market,
but they’re making a good impact thanks to their
innovative use of materials and design. Their
ARG Vertical LD Day Top is an interesting way
to combine some extra protection, and storage,
for riders who might not want to ride with a
backpack. The close fi tting tank top made of a
stretchy material uses the ARG padding (see
our review on p67) along your spine with four
small pockets either side for small water bottles
(provided), a phone or multitool. Having the right
fi t is essential, so they come in a broad range of
sizes. Keep an eye on the importer’s website for
stockists.

TROY LEE DESIGNS ACE GLOVE

A good set of gloves go unnoticed – they grip well,
don’t bunch up, and don’t restrict your movement.
Plus – they keep your skin in place when they
need to. TLD are pretty good at making gloves
that fi t that description, and the Ace glove is a
great seamless cuff design with a lightweight
upper, sweat wipe, and for the social media
savvy – they’re touchscreen compatible. No more
using your nose, elbow (or worse) to answer calls
or start and stop your Strava app. They’re also
available in blue, orange and fl uoro yellow.

PEARL IZUMI X-PROJECT 1.0 AND 2.0

Pearl Izumi MTB shoes have got a whole new
look and structure for 2015. The heart and sole
(no pun intended) of the X-Project range is the
sole. It is fl exible in the right places for walking
and running, but stiff enough for power transfer.
In the 2.0, the carbon fi bre sole is complemented
by an EVA foam heel for off bike comfort. With a
Boa reel and velcro working with a bi-directional
closure they have a very precise fi t. The extra
padding and bigger toe bumper should make a
great performance trail shoe.

The 1.0 model is pared down a little, with a
seamless second skin upper, no EVA insert in the
carbon fi bre sole, and 2 Boa reels and non-stretch
mesh for a high-performance fi t using the same
bi-directional closure. It’s also a little lighter –
making a great race and trail shoe, especially if
you dabble in cyclocross.

Price: X-Project 2.0 $329, X-Project 1.0 $399
