WHAT
TO
BUY
“Start out with
a blowdry on
day one.”
“Go into
a messier vibe
the next day.”
“Then fl at-iron it and do a sleek
look on day three since that
requires a little oil in the hair.”
“Day four could
be a slicked-
back ponytail.”
“The fi fth day
is when you
wash it.”
The most high-maint Kardashian only washes her hair once every
fi ve days! Here’s what she and her stylist plan for each day
THE RULES
Thankfully, there aren’t any. How
often you wash your hair is a
personal choice and comes down
to the climate you live in and how
active you are. “In winter, women
with long hair would probably
wash it a couple of times a week,”
says trichologist Anthony Pearce.
“However, if you’re in a humid
climate and are also going to the
gym, you should wash it daily.”
THE MYTH
Many think shampooing
every day makes the
scalp produce more
oil. Well, that’s half true.
“If you use a harsh
shampoo, it will strip
your hair,” says Pearce.
“If you’re going to
wash daily, you’ll
need to use an
everyday shampoo
and conditioner,
preferably one that’s
sodium laureth sulfate-
free and paraben-free.”
HOW LONG CAN
WE LEAVE IT?
We’re all for using dry
shampoo for as many
days as we can, but
Pearce says to monitor
your scalp. “Usually,
when you’re not
washing your hair
enough, your scalp
starts to get itchy,
greasy and flaky
because you’re
getting oil and
pollution on top
of product build-
up. The scalp
starts to get
irritated and can
even lead to hair loss.”
DOES
HAIR TYPE
MATTER?
Not so much – it’s all about
the right shampoo and
conditioner. “Ensure you
use products that are
suited to fi ne or fl y-
away or curly hair,”
says Pearce.
