Art meets science with this traditional indoor thermometer, which makes a beautiful ornamental piece in any home or office. Features include an analogue clock and hygrometer
(which measures humidity) encased in a wooden frame. The thermometer reads temperatures between 18 – 26ºC. Dimensions 18cm (h) x 10cm (w) x 5cm (d).
The Galileo thermometer (named after the famous Italian physicist Galileo Galilei) is made of a sealed glass cylinder containing a clear-liquid (paraffin oil) and a series of sealed
glass bulbs with different densities. It’s named after Galileo because he discovered the principle on which this thermometer is based – that the density of a liquid changes in
proportion to its temperature. As the temperature increases, the density of the clear liquid decreases causing the bulbs to sink; and vice versa. Engraved temperature tags are
attached to each bulb, which allows you to determine the temperature (within 2 degrees).
