Good news – a faux glowing complexion
means less foundation and more compliments

W

hen it comes to tanning, there’s nothing worse than
a honey golden chest and an alabaster face. OK, maybe
Fanta hands are worse, but you get the idea. Facial fake
tan to the rescue! “The best way to apply it is to use your fingers,”
says makeup artist Rachael Brook. “Make sure you spread the
product all the way up to your hairline and match it up to your
tan line on your body.” If your foundation shade matches your
chest, you won’t need to change it. “You may also find that you’ll
use less foundation once you’ve got more colour to your face as
using a facial tanner can hide small imperfections.” You might
need to amp up the bronzer, though. “If you want to look super-
bronzed, you’ll need to use a product that is a couple of shades
darker than your newly tanned face,” explains Brook. And as
for maintenance, “keep in mind that facial fake tan only lasts for
a day or so, unlike an all-over body tan – so be prepared to top
it up regularly,” says Brook. “I also like to use facial tans with
added moisturising benefits to make sure it doesn’t dry my skin
out – particularly if you’re totally replacing your daily moisturiser
with the tanning product.” Leigh Campbell #
