JENNIFER’S SCRAP
QUILTING TIPS
- This is an excellent project for using lots of small
scraps from your stash. My quilt also includes fabrics
given to me by quilting friends, making it extra special. - Don’t worry about finding the perfect fabric. Use
what you have. You’ll be surprised by how good
quilts created by ‘making do’ can look. - If a piece of fabric is too small for the shape you need to
cut, consider joining it to another piece of the same fabric
or even of a diff erent fabric to create suff icient for the
patch. This is what quiltmakers did in the past, and it’s
one of the things that makes vintage quilts so wonderful.
JENNIFER’S FABRIC
CUTTING TIPUse a small quilter’s ruler
and a rotary cutter to cut out the B diamond shapes.
Match the^11 ⁄ 4 in line on the ruler with each edge of the
diamond you’ve traced onto the fabric in turn and cut
down the edge of the ruler. If you’re cutting more than
one diamond from the same fabric, leave 1in between
shapes to reduce the risk of cutting into the seam
allowance of neighbouring shapes with the rotary cutter.
