Triangles
Work each round in a
different colour. To begin,
wrap the yarn around one
finger four times and work
the first round into the
circle you made.
Round 1– ch 2 (counts as
first tr), 17 tr into the circle,
sl st into top of ch 2 to
complete the round ... 18 tr.
Round 2– Attach a new
colour in any st, ch 3
(counts as first dtr), 1 dtr in
same st, 1 tr in next 4 sts,
2 dtr in next st, ch 5. Rep
for each side of the triangle,
sl st into top of ch 3 to
complete the round ... 8 sts
each side.
Round 3 – Attach a new
colour in any ch 5 point,
ch 2 (counts as fi rst tr), 2 tr,
ch 3, 3 tr into same ch 5 sp,
1 tr in next 8 sts. Rep for
each side of the triangle, sl
st into ch 2 to complete the
round ... 14 sts each side.
Round 4 – Attach a new
colour in any ch 3 point, ch
2 (counts as fi rst tr), 1 tr, ch
3, 2 tr, in same ch 3 sp, 1 tr
in next 14 sts. Rep for each
side of the triangle, sl st
into ch 2 to complete the
round ... 18 sts each side.
Assembly
Base
After making one triangle,
Sue recommends that you
join them as you go by
working a sl st in each
stitch of adjacent triangles
to join them together. Begin
by making the 10-triangle
bag base – Sue chose to
work Round 4 of all these
triangles in the same rust
colour, but this is optional.
As you work each of the
next nine triangles for the
base, work a line of sl st to
join them to the adjacent
side/s of the other triangles
in the lozenge shape. Refer
to the photo and Diagram 1.
Bag sides
Once you’ve completed
the base, add eight triangles
around it to start building
the sides. The fi rst eight
triangles on the base should
look like an elongated star.
In between each of the fi rst
eight triangles, sl st the two
sides of eight more triangles,
pointed ends towards the

Finishedsize:

weight approx. 410g (13oz)
Note: Read all the instructions
before starting the project.
Correct tension is not vital
for this project – if yours
diff ers from the standard,
your bag would just have
a slightly larger or smaller
finished size. The project
does not take the full 20 50g
balls of yarn, so it makes an
ideal stash buster if you have
part balls of 8 ply knitting
cotton at hand. Australian/
UK crochet terminology
is used; North American
readers should consult
a crochet manual to
ensure they interpret the
instructions correctly.
