EDITOR’S COMMENT
I did a double take when I first
saw this image. The subject looks
like a model car but that doesn’t
really fit with the smoke bellowing
from the rear tyres. The reason
for the confusion is the way the
focus drops off around the car, the
way it would in a photo of a very
small object, like a model car! Stan
Paczkowski writes, “This photo was
taken from the stands at the Ekka
[The Royal Queensland Show]
during their evening muscle car
performance. The image has been
cropped and the saturation has
been increased. To give a more
dramatic effect selective focus has
been used in PaintShop Pro X6.”
There’s certainly an argument
that the miniature effect was
overused when it was first
discovered a few years ago. That
said, it can be put to good use with
the right subject and I think it does
add something here. Apart from all
that, this is just a well seen moment
– the smoke, the bright colours and
the composition. Well done Stan on
an intriguing image.
