he world’s first dual control Mercedes-BenzEconic has been introduced in Australia.According to Mercedes-Benz, the additionof a dual control version of the intelligentlydesigned truck, with an additional steering wheeland column fitted to the left-hand side of thecabin, means more choice for Australian wastecollection operators.The new dual control Econic has a Euro VI ratedengine, electronic stability program and a speciallow-entry cab design.Mercedes-Benz trucks in Worth, Germany,says it developed the unique Econic model inresponse to interest from Australian operatorswho required a dual control system.The Econic uses a 7.7-litre diesel engine with299hp that meets Euro VI emission standards anddelivers a reduction of emissions and particulatematter by up to 90 per cent compared to theEuro V engine. It is linked up to a six-speedAllison fully automatic transmission.Its cabin complies with the European ECE-R29crash test regulations, and features largepanoramic windows.The Econic also features electronic braking andanti-lock braking systems, with air suspension forall axles and a suspended driver’s seat on bothsides of the cabin.B
