“My best friend Emily came to school
one day looking really upset and
wouldn’t tell me why. After a lot of
coaxing, she finally told me her
parents were getting a divorce and
made me promise not to tell anyone.
When I got home I told my parents
about it coz I felt like I needed some
advice. The next week at school she
completely gave me the cold shoulder
and it hurt so bad. It turned out my
mum had mentioned it to hers. I felt
crap! The thing is, I really did have the
best intentions. The first thing I did to fix
things was own up to what I did – she
was already in a crappy sitch and on top
of that she had to deal with me telling
someone else about it. I explained that
I was only trying to help by asking for
the best kind of advice, and while she
said it would take awhile for her to trust
me again, I said I’d always be there for
her. It took some time, but after I went
out of my way to hang out with her more
to take her mind off her parents’ divorce,

league, so when he asked me out I was smitten! My friend Kristy wasn’t

I had ditched the person who really cared about me! It was like a double
