LAST YEAR WAS MASSIVE FOR YOU
BECAUSE YOU WERE TOURING AS
WELL AS RELEASING YOUR FIRST
ALBUM. WHAT WERE SOME OF THE
BIGGEST HIGHLIGHTS?
Releasing my first album was definitely always
something that I’d wanted to do so that was pretty
cool for me. One of the bigger highlights would
have been when I went on tour with this rapper
called Seth Sentry, coz it was the longest hip-hop
tour in Australian history. It was 50 shows around
Australia, so it was like almost four months of
touring and travelling all on the one tour and
playing like four or five shows a week. So that was
crazy, it was super awesome. I had no idea there
were even 50 places to play to in Australia!
WHAT WAS IT LIKE CONSTANTLY
PERFORMING FOR YOUR FANS?
It was amazing. It was a huge learning experience
I think, because a tour looks like it’s the easiest
thing in the world, but getting up at a certain
hour every morning and going to bed
really late because of shows and
starting to get sick and all that
stuff made it difficult. But it
was awesome meeting so
many different people at
every show and every
location. Hanging out with
people and making like 50
to a 100 friends every night
was pretty cool so yeah,
I had a lot of fun. It was
really sweet.
OBVIOUSLY YOU’RE A HIP-HOP
ARTIST, BUT YOU’VE GOT A REALLY
UNIQUE SOUND. CAN YOU TELL
US A BIT ABOUT THAT?
Yeah I don’t know how to describe it! I think for
me, I definitely grew up on hip-hop – that was my
favourite genre by far – and so that’s definitely
always going to be the foundation of what I do. But
I think my sound is kind of just me. I grew up
singing and playing guitar before I could rap and
then I got into hip-hop so much that I wanted to
blend it all together and see how it came out.
IF YOU COULD COLLABORATE WITH
ANYONE, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Collaborating with Kanye would be crazy. He’s
such a mastermind. He’s just super clever and has
this foresight in music that no-one else has.
HAVE YOU EVER MET ANOTHER
ARTIST AND BEEN TOTALLY
STARSTRUCK?
I met Ed Sheeran a while ago and
I was pretty starstruck. I was too
nervous to even speak to him!
WHAT WAS HE LIKE?
He was actually so lovely. I
was really nervous for like
10 seconds and then we
ended up having a really
cool conversation. We
ended up freestyling
together that night
at a party so it was
pretty fun. He’s
a really cool guy!
